The boy's home in the north of Colombo

Location and history

The Muditha Boys home is in Hettipola. It is roughly a 2-hour drive north from Colombo. It was founded in 1998 by Buddhist monks and is run as a foundation. The local management is in the hands of Rev. Wilbagedara Gnanissara, a monk who is assisted by five staff members.

The Children

The home now accommodates about 50 boys between the ages of 4 and 20. As in the other homes, education is equally important to us there. Thus, we provide the adolescents with English lessons. In addition, the boys and young adult men must learn to live in a community and to take on responsibilities. This is one of our main concerns. In order for the boys to prepare their future lives outside of the home they must learn such skills at an early stage. An important factor in this regard is Rev. Wilbagedara Gnanissara who leads by example and is a wonderful role model.
