Location and history
The girls' home "Vijitha Balika Orphanage" is located in Beruwala. The orphanage is located on a hill near the west coast of Sri Lanka and has been in existence for 18 years. Unfortunately, the property is not large enough to be self-sufficient in agriculture. However, fruit and vegetables are planted on a small scale. The home is run by Conny, an Austrian who has been living in Sri Lanka for 25 years.
The Children
Srilankapoint started working with the home less than a year ago. 18 girls between the ages of four and 18 live there, but the building is in very bad condition. The roof and windows were badly damaged during the last storm and are in urgent need of repair. The drinking water pump must also be replaced soon, as it breaks down at increasingly regular intervals. In this home there is a minimum investment need of CHF 45'000 at the moment, in order to repair the most important damages and to stabilize the situation.
